I have been involved in sports my entire life. Initially as an athlete (track and field, motocross, alpine sports, mountain biking, and duathlon), and later professionally as a physician (sports medicine, mountain medicine, osteopathic medicine, and emergency medicine) and as an athletic coach (running, cycling, motocross, Dakar Rally, alpine sports).
“Victories are not born on the field. You create them during training—day after day.”
— Silvia Pencak
I graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Insubria in Varese and am registered with the Medical Council of Varese.
I obtained both the basic and advanced diplomas in Mountain Medicine at the University of Padua, further developing the skills required to operate in high-altitude environments. I subsequently completed the International Master’s Degree in Mountain Medicine at the University of Insubria in Varese, with a thesis focused on the analysis of susceptibility to Acute Mountain Sickness through submaximal exercise testing in simulated altitude—work that bridges scientific research and clinical practice in extreme environments.
I work as an emergency physician with experience in acute and emergency care, and as a sports medicine doctor as an Associate Member of the Italian Sports Medicine Federation. I am also active in mountain medicine, with a particular focus on high altitude and expedition medicine.
Alongside this, I teach in the National Training Courses for CAI Instructors, covering both medical and athletic preparation topics.
I also work as an athletic coach, specializing in endurance sports and disciplines practiced in mountain environments, including mountaineering, high-altitude expeditions, trail running, hiking, ski mountaineering, cycling, mountain biking, and running.
Each expedition has been a unique experience, where medicine has encountered the mountains—
and above all, the people.
In 2014, I took part in a mountaineering-scientific expedition on Mount Ararat, combining research and adventure. That same year, I had the privilege of supporting the Touching the Sky project, accompanying a tetraplegic mountaineer who reached the Punta Gnifetti—a remarkable testimony of resilience and inner strength.
In 2019, I supported the expedition Urlando contro il cielo, alongside a mountaineer with cystic fibrosis who pushed his limits to reach the summit of the Punta Gnifetti. Two years later, in 2021, with Fragili Rocce, I shared the journey of mountaineers affected by cystic fibrosis and kidney disease who reached the Capanna Margherita, transforming fragility into determination.
The most recent chapter of this journey, in 2025, was the Kailas Expedition on the Mount Kilimanjaro—an adventure that once again wove together medicine, mountains, and stories of courage.
An athlete since a young age, with competitive experience in middle- and long-distance running, cycling, mountain biking (Italian MTB championship winner), and motocross. I currently train for mountain activities (high altitude, ski mountaineering, hiking) and practice trail running, cycling, and mountain biking.
